Whitemoor LDC

Due to the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, Network Rail National Logistics Unit needed to vacate their existing depot and distribution centre at Temple Mills.  Whitemoor Yard in March was eventually identified as the most suitable site for the new distribution centre which was required to service the South-East of England, and Birse Civils were appointed to lead the construction process.

The electrical element of the work, undertaken by McCann’s, included providing an11kV distribution network around the yard. There were also a number of 11kV cable diversions to undertake as well as the introduction of new supplies. L.V power distribution was provided to the various buildings, installations and other equipment around the yard. Power supplies to service points’ heating was also provided for the points at the entrance to the yard.

The yard required high-level lighting to ensure even light distribution amongst the 17 sidings.

In addition due cognisance had to be taken of the housing close by and the design took into

consideration the environmental impact of the lighting and provided a complex switching

design to address these issues.
